I read this article in the local newspaper about a homeless shelter in town that was debating closing its doors early this year. Even though I live in California it does get really cold here in the winter. As I was reading this article I came across a quote by a homeless man who said, "I was one of those people out there last year, wet and cold." After reading this I put the article down and just thought about it for a moment. I know that God was telling me to reach out to these people and find a way to help them. So today I finally came up with an idea! I am going to find a way to get people (from my church and around town) to donate blankets, rain coats, jackets, hats, gloves, or anything that will help keep these people warm and dry this winter. I plan on distributing these items to people who come to the shelter for a thanksgiving meal. So as of right now I am still trying to think of a way to get this started. I will talk to my pastor tomorrow about this, but if anyone has any advice or ideas it would really help.

My church is doing a scarf donation. They're knitting scarves to send overseas to people who are struggling with these conditions. I tried learning to knit, but couldn't do it lol, but I'm still supporting the mission. What they intend on doing is contacting the people they know to collect extra hats, gloves, and coats to send along with the scarves. I believe this is an effort to keep the children in other countries warm this winter. Just make an announcement at church that you have this idea and see what comes of it. Most likely if each person chains the message onto their friends and family you could have an overflowing barrel full in no time!!! Blessings, ~Bekah~

I would like to do this kind of thing some time. I don't know much about the homelessness situation in my area, but I know that when the time is right God will lead me to it.

I spoke to my pastor last week, and he said that the church is already involved in a program called We Care. But he emailed me the other day and told me he gave my email address to the people who are in charge of everything. Hopefully they will be contacting me soon.
