The following poems were wrote by a good friend of mine. They are out of a book called: Chronicles of the Cross In Verse By David E. Schneider.
I have overcome the world
Jesus had warned His disciples of persecution
How He would send the Holy Spirit to comfort their heart
And though He was leaving soon to go away
He would see them again as they would never part
I go to my Father, He said to them
It was apparent that they did not understand
Speak to us plainly, they asked Him
Jesus answered, "I came from the Father" as a man
"My kingdom is not of this world"
So, "I will return to my Father" whence I cam
And because my Father loveth you as He loves Me
You will go forth and glorify My name
Tribulation, misery, sorrow, and much pain will come
Jesus said, but in all this you can have peace
Did I not send you forth as sheep among wolves
To heal the sick, cast out devils, and the kingdom of God to preach
We "believe that you came forth from God"
The disciples said, as they listened keenly to His word
Jesus said, in this world you will have trouble and strife
But be full of joy, "I have overcome the world"
Release Us Barabbas
Release us Barabbas
Jesus heard the people say
Release us Barabbas, release us Barabbas
The crowd chanted, do it right away
Release unto us Barabbas
He's the one we choose
We want no part of Him
The one called, King of the Jews
"His blood be upon us and our children"
The Crowd shouted with great zeal
Pilate washed his hand of this matter
Not knowing the scripture he would fulfill
So, because of their tradition
They released a murderer that day
They kept the man called Jesus
And they would make Him pay
When the soldiers came marching
The officer of the guard did say
Barabbas you are free
Another will die in your place today
What a beautiful picture of grace
Whenever Barabbas thought about how he became free
He could always say
There was a man named Jesus who died for me
There are many Barabba's in the world today
Rebels for some cause
Rallying men and women to themselves
And breaking many of man's laws
But unless you are a "Rebel for Jesus"
Giving forth all of God's love
Helping everyone around you
To know God's salvation from above
It will all be in vain my friend
When you are asked to give an account
What did you do with the man called Jesus
Who died on the Holy Mount
Did your rebel heart receive Him as Savior, Lord, and King
Did he give you new life within
Or are you going your own rebellious way
To live and die in all your sin
I have overcome the world
