OK, I am a worship leader. I love to sing and play my guitar to lead folks into a place where the barriers between God and man dissolve and communion takes place. I'm not talking about the ritual of communion, but the real thing!
Are there other worship leaders out there?

I Love the Guitar and I would love to know how to play one!
We have a guitar player at our both prayer groups and they are excellent!
We also have an excellent worship leader who plays the guitar who is in charge of the music at the Youth2000 retreats!

Oh boy, you don't know what kind of can of worms you just opened with that question!
Here you go:
What's the price range?
Beginner guitar?
Nylon or steel strings?
Electric or acoustic?
What's you goal or purpose for learning?
Were do you live?
That's enough for a while. Answer those and I'll help you narrow it down. I love guitars and I love helping people figure out how to choose the right one.

Okay, here I go. What's the price Range?: Really any good guitar that's low in price. But let's say between a $100 and $200. I know, very hard to find good ones at that price. Beginner Guitar?: Yes!! Nylon or Steel strings?: Steel! Electric or Acoustic?: Acoustic! What's your goal or purpose to learn it?: I'd very much like to learn to play the guitar and piano, so that I can write and play music for the many songs I've written. Also because I enjoy them both. Where do you live?: I live in the first state of the USA!! Delaware! Its capital to be exact, Dover, Delaware! Thanks a lot Bob! I look forward to your answers! God Bless you. Jonathan

OK, for a beginner guitar player I suggest that whatever guitar you buy that you put light strings on it. Don't go to the extreme and put on really light electric guitar guage strings on it just pick up a set of Phosphpr Bronze .012 - .053. Now, withhin that price range there is actually a wide range of guitars out there. You can choose Yamaha, Aria, Epiphone, Ibanez.... there are lots of them. You will be buying a laminated guitar rather than solid woods but I've owned some that were pretty darned good for the price! Living in the US helps and living where there are a lot of people helps lots! You probably have several guitar stores within reach that you can go and look at some of these guitars to get an idea what they are like. After you look you can then go to www.musiciansfriend.com and buy at an affordable price. What to look for: 1) String height from fretboard. The strings should not be hard to push down to the fretboard even at the 12th fret. If they are, move on. Watch out for buzzing. Talk to me if you need more about buzzez. 2) Size. Your guitar should fit your body. For example - men and women are built differently (In case you hadn't noticed) so some guitars fit differently. The same goes for people of the same gender with different body styles. Some people have a long torso and can play a large body guitar easily. Others have a short waist and large bodied guitars are too much. What you want to do is hold a guitar on your lap while you sit and reach over it as if to strum over the sound hole. Hold that position for a few seconds. If your arm starts going to sleep, well you know right there you have a problem! I know, that's a bit extreme but you get the idea. A Dreadnaught size guitar is big and deep, an Auditorium size is smaller and more shallow, a Jumbo is bigger and deep but has a narrower waist than the Dreadnaught. Try a few out and ask about size if they aren't marked. Often (with many brands) Dreadaughts are designated with a "D" somewhere in the model number, Auditoriums are designated "000" and Jumbos have a "J". There are other sizes and designations too. Talk to me about them if you run across some. 3) Neck size and shape can make a difference. Just like the size and shape of the guitar body can affect how well you play, so can the neck. Some necks are thick and chunky, others are thin and more delicate. If you have short fingers you might favor a thinner neck. Longer fingers can handle a thicker neck but be sure to try them out to see what you like. 4) Tone. Your guitar should sound as though it has some depth. Heavily braced guitars sound shallow. Lighter braced guitars can sound more mellow or deeper. A 000 will accentuate the higher tones while a Dread will be more 'bassy'. Alright, now that I have thoroughly confused you, fire more questions so I can confuse you more. By the way, Lorna, I don't know if Musician's Friend ships to Europe or not. Also by the way, Musician's Friend is not necessarily my favorite 'place' but it does offer some good deals at times and that is why I mention it. Your mileage may vary. I just love a discussion of guitars and pianos! I play both. Do more composing on the piano and writing songs with the guitar. I have a blue flame dean exotica acoustic electric guitar, with a built in tuner. Got a good deal on it and it has wonderful tone and is just beautiful. I've been playing guitar since 16, piano since 8, and writing and singing songs since 6. Now they have all caught up with me and I do all three. My very first song is one alot of people request these days lol.
