"Go after God. Whatever it takes, do it. And don't give the excuse, 'I am just a teenager' or 'I'll do that when I grow up,' because it doesn't work that way. God wants you NOW." ~ Rachel Joy Scott "If being a Christian were easy, everyone would do it. Not to know God, but to have the easy life." ~ Rachel Joy Scott "I had my ups and downs and I fell a few times, but I did not give up. Don't give up, because God's reward is worth it all...I challenge you to listen, and see what God will do. Take a risk, chance it, trust in God...You will see what God can do with a willing heart." ~ Rachel Joy Scott Here are some really great quotes by the Columbine High School martyr, Rachel Scott. She was killed for her faith on April 20, 1999. If you haven't read the book about her life, called Rachel's Tears, you should. She was an ordinary teen who was used by God to do extraordinary things. There is a website about her, too: www.racheljoyscott.com ,if you want to find out more!

This is the newsletter from Rachel's mother, Beth, for the month of August. It's worth reading. August, 2008 Dear Friends, I hope your summer has been great and fun. I know that many will start back to school in August. A new year always means fresh challenges and experiences, which sometimes can cause anxiety. This news-letter may actually help with that. We have been sharing Rachel's thoughts on how to stay strong spiritually and grow. This month is about Prayer. From the Journals of Rachel Scott. "Prayer is so important. Prayer is your tool to answers. If you want God to put things in your life and you want answers, you have to talk to God. You have to ask. You have to make room for God. A lot of room. If you do this, things will begin to happen. God will talk to you. I mean it. He will. It was just a few week ago that I actually heard God. I mean heard God as if he were standing there before me.
I have never experienced anything like that. God had given me words and feelings and signs before, but he had never talked to me like that. I think I only heard God's voice because I sought God diligently, on a regular basis, whether I felt like it or not. I had my ups and downs and I fell a few times, but I did not give up.
Don't give up, because God's reward is worth it all. Whatever it takes, do it. Seek God with a whole heart. Love God with a passion. AND DON'T GIVE THE EXCUSE "I AM JUST A TEENAGER," OR "I'LL DO THAT WHEN I GROW UP," BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY. GOD WANTS TO KNOW YOU NOW. I could sit here and tell you what to do and what to say, but where will that get you? Go after God. Trust me...but better yet...trust God—CHRISTIANITY IS NOT A LABEL BUT A LIFESTYLE.
Once you start doing these four things, 1. Get involved in a church with a good youth group. 2. Read the Bible. 3.Start keeping a quiet time. 4. Pray and you begin to explore God and all of His possibilities. You develop a relationship with God. A person can know everything there is to know ABOUT God, but that doesn't mean that person KNOWS God. But doing these things, you can and you will. You will take what once was a label and make it a lifestyle.
I can't emphasize how important these things are. I hear so many of my friends complain about how they don't have time. If I think I don't have time for God then I am too busy. And being too busy is the most lame excuse I've ever heard. I want to be more willing that that. God can't do anything in my life-or yours—unless we're willing to meet God halfway. After you start doing these things, everything will fall into place. You will see what God can do with a willing heart."Hey, even this advice from Rachel is good advice for me. Be encouraged and just try what she said. It sure won't hurt anything and it may not make your life perfect, but you will have the Lord to get you through those tough times. God Bless, Beth

Here is the summary of the book Rachel's Tears.
Rachel's Tears: The Spiritual Journey of Columbine Martyr Rachel Scott by Darrell Scott, Beth Nimmo, with Steve Rabey
A moving meditation on the life, death, and faith of Rachel Scott as seen through the eyes of her parents and in her own words. The Columbine tragedy in April 1999 pierced the heart of our country. In December 1999, we learned that the teenage killers specifically targeted Rachel Scott and mocked her Christian faith on their chilling, homemade video tapes. Rachel Scott died for her faith. Now her parents talk about Rachel's life and how they have found meaning in their daughter's martyrdom in the aftermath of the school shooting. Using excerpts and drawings from Rachel's own journals, they offer a spiritual perspective on the Columbine tragedy and provide a vision of hope for preventing youth violence across the nation.
"An impactful writing about a young woman's incredible faith in God and powerful testimony of how she lived it all the way to her last breath! Thank you, Rachel, for opening our minds and our hearts with your inspiring life - your book lies next to my Bible! " -Michael Tamburello, LFC Founder

Rachel Joy Scott struggled with personal issues like every teenager. She met her challenges with a faith so deep, so energetic, so alive that it underscored everything she said, wrote, and did during her seventeen years on this planet. Nowhere is this more evident than in the stacks of diaries she left behind. Rachel's artwork, poetry, letters, and running talks to God pepper the pages of her journals. They are painstakingly collected, compiled, and reproduced herein by her mother, Beth Nimmo, sisters Dana and Bethanee, and author Debra Klingsporn. A "spiritual workbook" for teens that Rachel helped write!

Here is the summary of another book about Rachel Scott, titled Chain Reaction: A Call to a Compassionate Revolution by Darrell Scott and Steve Rabey.
Chain Reaction: A Call to a Compassionate Revolution by Darrell Scott and Steve Rabey
Rachel Scott believed that she could make a difference. She targeted three groups of young people at Columbine High School: the handicapped, those picked on by others, and those new to her school. Her weapons of choice were honesty, compassion, and kindness. Rachel's death amplified her deeds and started a ripple effect that has been felt around the world. Chain Reaction details Rachel's vision and challenges readers to be a part of this amazing movement. This book invites people to live a life of unabashed compassion and to help shape our culture with love.

You won't want to miss this one either!
The Martyr's Torch by Bruce Porter
This is the story that the media could not tell. It is a story told through the eyes of a pastor who ministered to Rachel Joy Scott's family in the midst of heartbreaking sorrow and loss. However, it is also a story of vibrant life and new possibilities. It is a story that proves once again that God's people respond to the martyrdom of faithful witnesses as they have for thousands of years-with renewed vigor and overcoming, dynamic boldness unto death. This story graphically demonstrates why the Church will continue to bear a brilliant torch of God's love to all nations until the day of Christ's glorious return.

Yes, I agree! Rachel's story has had such an impact on my life, too. She allowed God complete control of her life, and he accomplished and still is accomplishing great things through her and her testimony.
